Watching from Mill Hill, early morning. Meadow pipits streamed south in large numbers, 500 in half an hour early on. A few swallows too, otherwise vis-migging and migrant hunting for passerines unproductive. South eastrlies in next few days should be good.
On the sea twelve black terns went south with half a dozen arctic skuas seen. Other: over 100 gannets, hundreds sandwich terns, guillemot and another auk sp., 4 r t divers, marsh harrier, merlin on the beach.
Called in at Freiston shore on way back and checked the reservoir, which was stuffed with birds; 2 little stint, 7 curlew sands, 14 ruff, 4 knot, 130 blackwits, 10 barwits, 12 avocets, 12 greenshank, 130 wigeon, 2 pintail, 5 Egyptian geese, pink footed goose.
One of the little stints was colour-ringed, (Norwegian scheme.) I have forwarded the details to ringer.
