White Nun

4th Feb. 2016

Kirkby on Bain.  Went over to look through the gulls and to sit in the hide in the hope of a bittern. By early afternoon, no luck with either so searched some more waterbodies and discovered a beautiful drake smew. Arguably the finest looking piece of wildfowl on the planet.

I got a couple of digiscoped shots, best I could do, my Kowa scope is still in Germany for repair. (Been two and a half months now). If you’re buying a new scope don’t go for Kowa. Although superb bits of kit the after sales service is diabolical.

Back at the hide later, another wait, more coffee, more snacks and then….Yesss! Bittern flew from the reedbed to the left of the hide and over to the far side.
