Hurtled up to Ludworth moor, near Glossop this morning to see the lovely summer plumaged red-throated pipit, found yesterday. It was in a sheep field in the middle of nowhere with meadow pipits, wheatears and pied wagtails. One of the bonuses of travelling to see good birds is that you get to visit some gorgeous places, places you’d probably never get to ordinarily. The track we were watching the bird from is part of the border between Derbyshire and Manchester. The pipit was on the Derbyshire side. Some of the Manchester boys were waiting and hoping it would fly over the track, so they could add it to their County lists.
