Marston, etc. 13 aug.

There was slightly more going on at Marston than of late, scores of swallows, house martins and sand martins were feeding up and quite a few small passerines were in the hedgerows. There were five lesser whitethroats together in the elders down Mill lane.

A juv. cuckoo was in the willows.

A family of grey partridges were the first I’ve seen for yonks.

Also sparrowhawk, g s woodpecker, grey heron, green sands, snipe, lapwings.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Denton res. lately, as the levels are down, ready for forthcoming repairs to the wall. Two common sandpipers were enjoying the rarely exposed muddy edges. Also a grey wagtail and kingfisher + swifts, swallows, house martins, sand martins, bullfinches, warblers, g c grebes, little grebe, heron.
