Hey up meducks.

Kirkby-on-Bain.    Always a great place to see a good variety of species, today over seventy noted, with some good birds seen.

Two drake scaup were on the riverslea pit in the morning, the female must have been hiding as she didn’t put in an appearance until the afternoon.

P1070721Several avocets fed majestically along with a couple of little ringed plovers on the hide pit. A white wagtail was on one of the islands.

Following a heavy shower a flurry of about thirty sand martins and swallows appeared and disappeared just as quickly.

Across the road on the tip pit a long-tailed duck showed well. On the way home I got a text from Chris Grimshaw telling me there were a pair.

P1070716A marsh harrier flew over and  half a dozen buzzards were in the area.
