Bryn Parry found a moribund Manx Shearwater last week in fields near Little Hale, he suspects it may have hit overhead power cables. Continue reading Manx
I found a lone Raven on new territory today close to Marston STW, I’ve had them many times as overflying birds both over the STW reserve and nearby Jericho woods but this is the first occasion I’ve had one settled, Looks a good area for it to stay too. Also of interest today, I had a single medium sized wader battling the head wind over Hough on the Hill, no idea what it was as I didn’t have optics with me. Continue reading Raven
We had the pleasure of looking after our Grandson this weekend so only birding to be done was going to be at home. It started on saturday with the usual suspects visiting; Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Blackbirds, Starlings, House Sparrows, Dunnocks, a Robin, Jackdaws, the odd Chaffinch, Crows, Blue and Great Tits but then I saw two small shapes make their way along the trees bordering the school which my garden backs onto, these two shapes turned out to be the first 2 Goldcrests I had ever witnessed in my garden, not there for long mind but there never the less! A … Continue reading Interesting weekend birding @ home.

Got all set up, see photo below of my view and so began the wait and wait and wait! Target area was a couple of over hanging branches on the opposite bank of the river. After about 90 minutes nothing was seen apart from a Moorhen and 2 hen Mallards! The odd Swallow was seen dipping down to waters level … Continue reading Went for Kingfishers & found a Hobby!
I had an Osprey fishing Freiston Lakes ( Caythorpe ) at 9.00 am this morning , I had to leave for Lincoln at 9.15, but it was still there when I left being constantly harrassed by Corvids. I called in on the way back from Lincoln but as expected no further sign. Trev Continue reading Osprey
I had the chance to go to MSTW this afternoon with Karen watching the Belgian Grand Prix and a little decent weather so off I went …… I parked at the works end of the site and had a pretty uneventful walk up towards the scrape and hide apart from 10 or so Corvids, a few Swallows, House Martins, Goldfinches & Greenfinches and a Wren I saw nothing all the way up Viking Way, apart from that is the infernal flies that were everywhere! I got to the hide to settle down and talk with the lone gentleman in the … Continue reading Marston STW – 1st visit for a few weeks.
