Marston.11 04 2012

Marston,a nice hour this afternoon.

Thought it was about time for a few migrants,so I checked all the surrounding fields. There were some wagtails on one of the fields along the approach road,it had been set with spuds recently and the birds were popping in and out of the deep furrows. It was difficult to get an accurate count, but there were probably 50 white/pied wagtails. Some were definately of the subsp.alba.There were at least 6 yellow wagtails, all males, brilliantly vivid colour against the dark earth.I would expect these numbers to rise over the coming days.Chaffinches, linnets, meadow pipits and skylarks were also in the field.

Walked down the track, very muddy as they’ve been lifting turf, they tell me this stuff goes to top premiership grounds you know! I’ve walked on some of it,so thats the only time I’ll get to play on hallowed turf.

A house martin was flying around above the village and a mistle thrush was on the grass.

Nothing new on the scrape, couldn’t locate the little ringed plover pair that I saw last week.
